Mohamed Salah criticism is wrong - I saw exactly what he did after Darwin Nunez goals

Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney thinks Mohamed Salah's body language during Liverpool's win over Brentford is cause for concern for Reds fans.

After setting incredibly high standards during the first half of the season, Salah is yet to score from open play in 2025 and struggled to impact proceedings against Brentford.

Deeney said that Salah "doesn't look interested" and also claimed that the Egyptian was the first Liverpool player to head down the tunnel while his teammates were celebrating in front of the away end at the Gtech Community Stadium.

“Notably, Salah is the first one off the pitch,” Deeney said on talkSPORT. “Something’s up with that fella today. Whether it’s something with Saudi, whether there’s a move, but he’s not been at the races today.

“Him going down the tunnel first, even though 95 per cent of the team is over there celebrating, says a lot to me. He doesn’t look interested. He’s standing on the touchline and if he sprints inside, he’s one-on-one every time. But he doesn’t look like he wants to.

“I’d be really disappointed if I was a Liverpool fan. It wasn’t like he was five steps ahead of the others. The whole team was celebrating in the corner and he was 70 metres away. It was like, ‘Job done, I’m out of here’. There might be something else going on and I’m overreacting. But that said a lot to me.”

Now, that's all well and good, Troy — but it's not true at all, is it?

Salah was clearly delighted when Nunez gave Liverpool the lead in the first minute of injury time, as he chased the Uruguayan with both arms aloft and a huge smile on his face as the Reds' players sprinted towards the away end to celebrate with the travelling supporters.

Salah's celebration was not one of a player who is not interested, and he also didn't make the sharp exit down the tunnel that Deeney claimed he had.

A video shared by The Athletic's James Pearce showed Salah heading over to the away end with his teammates and applauding the supporters who had made the trip from Merseyside to West London.

While Salah was clearly not at his brilliant best against Brentford, he was as delighted as any Liverpool fan with the crucial victory, so Deeney should perhaps get his facts right before he speaks next time.
