What Mohamed Salah was doing during Accrington Stanley tie as seven Liverpool players given day off
Mohamed Salah was one of seven Liverpool players given the day off by Arne Slot as the Reds beat Accrington Stanley 4-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday. Goals from Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jayden Danns and Federico Chiesa sent Arne Slot’s side through to the fourth round of the competition.
Along with the Egyptian, Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch were all left out of Slot’s matchday squad.
Meanwhile, Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister and Andy Robertson were only unused substitutes as Liverpool got the job done without much need for senior reinforcements.

But while Salah’s services were not required against Accrington, that does not mean he was slacking off. Far from it.
A couple of hours after the final whistle at Anfield, Salah posted a topless picture of himself in the gym, along with a flexed arm emoji, as he continues to work hard in what could be his final season with the Reds.
Salah remains out of contract at the end of the season and while he has admitted he wishes to stay at Anfield, he has also confirmed that he is not yet close to a breakthrough in negotiations with the club.
That has done little to distract the forward on the pitch though, with Salah boasting 21 goals and 17 assists from just 28 appearances so far this season.
With the clash with Accrington only the second game the Egyptian has not been involved in under Slot, he will certainly be refreshed for Liverpool’s top of the table clash with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
The Reds currently sit six points clear at the top of the table, with Forest level on points with Arsenal in second place.
