Mohamed Salah gives one-word answer when asked for Liverpool contract update
Mohamed Salah shut down questions about his future once again in the wake of Liverpool’s win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Reds put in an emphatic performance to record a 6-3 victory in north London and extend its margin at the top of the table to four points, with a game in hand.
But it was a particularly special afternoon for Salah, who set a number of new landmarks and milestones for Liverpool. His brace saw him move two clear of Erling Haaland at the top of the Premier League scoring charts, while he also became the first player in the division’s history to move on to double figures for goals and assists before Christmas.

“I didn’t think about it before the game but I am glad I did it,” Salah told Sky Sports after the match. “It’s something that makes me happy and proud and hopefully there is more to come.”
That wasn’t the only record Salah set at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He also moved up to 229 Liverpool goals and overtook Billy Liddle to become the fourth highest scorer in the club’s history.
“Of course it is something that is great to achieve for such a big club like Liverpool but, again, the most important thing is that we won the game and to have that achievement is great,” he said.
Next on the list is Gordon Hodgson, who Salah trails by 12 and will probably catch in the coming weeks and months. But he lags some 117 off Ian Rush and will need to stick around for plenty more years if he’s to come anywhere near the Welshman's tally.
With the 32-year-old's contract set to expire in the summer and no new deal yet agreed, there’s every chance that this will be his last campaign on Merseyside. Asked if there is any update on his future, Salah replied with a blunt: “No.”
Meanwhile, when quizzed on his opinion of what was a topsy-turvy game, Salah said: “We were quite good up front but defensively we could improve as a team, not just as individuals. Conceding three goals is quite hard and I think Virgil [van Dijk] will speak better than me on that. It’s quite good the result and hopefully we could just keep going.”
Next up for Liverpool is a home game against Leicester City on Boxing Day. The Foxes suffered a bruising 3-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday which piles pressure on new boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.
