Mohamed Salah has been told he's playing a perfect game off the field as well as on it, as he attempts to get the best possible deal out of Liverpool in contract negotiations.

The Egyptian's current contract is due to expire at the end of the season, but he is putting plenty of pressure on Liverpool to offer him what he wants in order to renew.

On the field, Salah is on course for a career-best individual season, scoring 20 goals and registering 17 assists in 26 appearances in all competitions, while off it, he has publicly said on several occasions that he and Liverpool are far away from reaching an agreement for him to stay at Anfield beyond June.

Craig Burley believes that Salah knows exactly how much power he has over Liverpool in the contract talks, and thinks he is playing his cards right in a bid to get what he wants.

“The Liverpool executives – they are lying on the floor at the moment,” said Burley on ESPN FC. “They’re almost in tears because they’ve probably made this guy the most magnificent offer and he is screwing them to the ground. He doesn’t have to say anything.

“There’s a big game this weekend – he could have let his representatives say yay or nay behind the scenes. He’s not serving the ball back over the net to Liverpool, he’s throwing a hundred balls up and serving an ace with every one of them. He’s holding Liverpool to a huge ransom at this moment so this is a very difficult scenario financially."

Speaking to Sky Sports this week, Salah — not for the first time this campaign — described this season as his last as a Liverpool player.

Explaining why he has more motivation than ever to win the Premier League this season, Salah said: "Coming back here, it's my last year in the club, so you want to do something special for the city."

He added: "There is no progress [in contract talks]. We are far away from any progress so we just need to wait and see."
