Mohamed Salah must match another Premier League record as Trent Alexander-Arnold recognized
"Only Mohamed Salah" has entered the Premier League lexicon as a stock phrase. The Liverpool star is so exceptional that he has become the bar against which others are measured in an array of different categories — and while there are still a handful of records he is yet to break, he could claim at least one of them within the next few weeks.
He will have some lofty goals in sight for the end of the season. Quite apart from the Ballon d'Or, a perfectly reasonable aim considering the start he has made to the campaign, Salah is already just seven assists away from the long-standing single-season record set by Thierry Henry.
The Egyptian could even be in with a shout of wresting his goals record back off Erling Haaland, and at any rate is on track to sail past the record number of total goal contributions in a season. But he shouldn't have to wait another 20 matches for his next milestone, although Trent Alexander-Arnold could theoretically hold him up.

The Liverpool duo have both been nominated for the December Player of the Month award. That comes after the Reds posted four wins and two draws over the festive period, cementing their status at the top of the pile.
It's worthy recognition for Alexander-Arnold, whose deflected goal in the last game of 2024 was a richly-deserved reward for some fine form. A creative force and a threat around the box, he has also embraced the one-versus-one defending that Arne Slot has at times required of him.
Nevertheless, the award surely has Salah's name on it. Despite seeing the Everton game postponed in December, he still managed to produce the most ever goal involvements by a player in a single calendar month — his 14 goals and assists sending him past Luis Suarez (also for Liverpool, in December 2013).
As well as Alexander-Arnold, Salah is up against Cole Palmer, Alexander Isak, Antonee Robinson, Morgan Gibbs-White, Jacob Murphy and Dean Huijsen. But should the 32-year-old claim the accolade as expected, it would be his seventh Premier League Player of the Month award.
That would bring him level with Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero, both of whom have won the award a record seven times. The way his campaign is going, Salah would surely fancy his chances of taking an outright lead by the end of the season.
The public vote runs until January 6. You can vote for Salah or Alexander-Arnold here.
Liverpool.com says: It won't be the most treasured title in Salah's collection, but it would speak volumes about his quality if he were to move joint-top of the list of Player of the Month winners. Few have matched his consistent quality over such a long period.
And Salah is not indifferent to individual records and awards. Though the team always comes first, his desire for the Ballon d'Or is well known.
If he signs a new deal at Liverpool, Kane might even be looking nervously over his shoulder at his goals record (Alan Shearer is probably a little too far down the road for either of them, but you never know). As the contract situation drags on, it is the chance to make even more history that might yet make up Salah's mind.
