Liverpool were without Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk for the second time in their last four matches when exiting the FA Cup at the fourth round stage after losing to Plymouth Argyle. The trio also did not play the final Champions League league phase game against PSV Eindhoven, which the Reds also lost.

Much like on the latter occasion, none of the three travelled for the game, albeit Alexander-Arnold is this time injured rather than merely rested. They were far from the only three given the game off on either occasion.

However, with their contracts expiring simultaneously this summer, they are inevitably viewed as a trio. Here is a round-up of rumours about their Liverpool futures.

Reds 'will allow' early Salah exit

Liverpool would reportedly allow Salah to leave at the start of June rather than when his contract ends at the end of that month if he does not sign a new deal. GIVEMESPORT claims 'Saudi dealmakers' have already approached the Reds to ascertain where they stand on effectively ending the player's time at the club early.

FIFA recently approved its member federations opening an exceptional transfer window spanning the first ten days of June for players to change teams before the Club World Cup begins. Al-Hilal are the one Saudi Pro League club in the competition as winners of the 2021 AFC Champions League.

Triple contract update

The Reds are reportedly not close to agreeing to contract extensions with any of Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Van Dijk despite remaining hopeful of renewing the deals of all three. Football Insider claims the club are no closer to doing so than ahead of the winter transfer window opening, with the expectation that any extensions will come later in the season amid an alleged growing feeling the longer Liverpool go without a breakthrough, the more likely it becomes all three are to leave.
