Moises Caicedo has shown his true colours following Chelsea's clash against Crystal Palace. Despite the 23-year-old midfielder's best efforts, he couldn't drag the Blues to victory at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

After pulling off a brilliant piece of skill to deceive Chris Richards, Jadon Sancho teed up Cole Palmer, who fired Chelsea ahead. Despite creating numerous opportunities, the West Londoners couldn't double their lead and Oliver Glasner's side got a strong foothold in the tie.

In the final minutes, the Eagles netted a late equaliser, with Jean-Philippe Mateta beating Robert Sanchez from close range. After the game, Caicedo vented his frustration with the result on social media.

Showing his leadership qualities, the Ecuador international captioned his post: "We wanted to start the year with a win. We deserved more, but the game goes on. Time to keep working [arm flexed emoji]."

The Chelsea dressing room have all rallied behind Caicedo. Reece James, Nicolas Jackson, Axel Disasi, Malo Gusto, Benoit Badiashile and Marc Guiu all 'liked' the midfielder's post, endorsing his words of wisdom after such a difficult festive period.

After winning just a point against Palace, the Blues missed out on the chance to climb above Nottingham Forest and into third place in the Premier League table. On Monday night, Nuno Espirito Santo's side will go four points clear of the Blues if they can defeat Wolves at Molineux.

Despite this, Maresca remains hopeful of making good progress at Stamford Bridge. The Chelsea boss said: "Two or three weeks ago, we were talking about the title race. I never thought [about the title race]. We knew that Newcastle, Aston Villa and Manchester City would be there, so for me, it's not about the table. It's about how we can improve things."

Then, on the race for Champions League qualification, Maresca added: "It's going to be like this until the end. We can be sixth or five in the table, we can be third or second again but at the end, it is going to be until the last two or three games. When we arrive there, we will see."

On Saturday afternoon, Chelsea will host Morecambe at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup third round. On the opportunity to turn a new page, Maresca said: "They just told me now: After September, this is the first week that we have an entire week now. So we have a chance to work this week, prepare the FA Cup game and then the Premier League."
