Rangers Fan View: We are just not good enough to mount a challenge yet
Annoyance would be the overriding emotion when I was leaving Ibrox on Saturday afternoon. Even though we lost the match 2-0, I felt that we competed much better than we had done in the previous couple of times we played them.
However, just competing is not acceptable and that’s where we have to kick it up a few notches in future matches against them. I honestly felt Caixinha got his tactics, for the most part, correct. It was another game where another big decision went against us. Craig Thomson must have closed his eyes when Simunovic fouled Morelos inside the box in the first half. It seems that all of the big decisions are going against us just now.

Unfortunately, two defensive mistakes, along with Thomson’s gross incompetence, cost us at least a point. If we get that penalty when the game is even and go in 1-0 up at half-time, it’s a completely different game.
There was one massive plus point to come out of the game: the performance of young Ross McCrorie. For someone making his first start, he played Griffiths superbly in the first period, was good in the air, played the ball out from the back confidently. It was really heartening to see him produce such a mature display. If he continues at this rate and develops, even further, it’s highly possible that he could have a good career for us.

The negatives are the fact that we are always so sloppy at the back. Both of their goals came from individual mistakes. Too many players are switching off at vital times in important moments of the games; this time Rogic and Griffiths made us pay the ultimate price.
The midfield, I felt, was quite poor as a collective. Ryan Jack did some neat and tidy stuff and broke up play quite a lot. However, Graham Dorrans was very frustrating to watch. This was the type of game he was signed for, and he disappointed. It took him to the dying minutes to put in a proper meaty tackle. He should have been making those types of challenges in the first five minutes, leading by example and setting the tone for the performance, especially as he was captain for the day.

Yes, I am aware he should be playing further forward, and it’s hampering his performances somewhat, but I don’t think playing deeper has hampered his ability to go in with a hard tackle.
Carlos Pena: the game just passed him by. He made some nice runs at times, but the game seemed to be played at too fast a pace for him to have any kind of meaningful impact on proceedings.
For us, it was a sore one. It always is when you lose to them. But the important thing now is we get back at it and win on Friday night. If I am not mistaken, at this point last season we lost 5-1 at Parkhead then drew 0-0 with Ross County at home. We cannot afford that kind of result against Hamilton.
Many people believe Caixinha’s time is up. However, I am maintaining a cool head. Think about the rebuilding job he had on his hands over the summer. I believe he should have some time to attempt to make a good go of this.
Frankly, many fans felt he shouldn’t have got the job in the first place and want him out asap, which is fair enough; everyone is entitled to their opinion at the end of the day.
Being realistic for a second, we are up against a side who have a winning mentality, bigger budget, and a settled core of players. I do not think sacking Caixinha just now is the right thing to do. If we sack manager after manager, we will become the Celtic of the 90s, and I do not want that.
Unfortunately, while we have improved the overall quality of the playing squad over the summer, the truth is that we are just not quite good enough to beat them just now.
It’s hard to take. Of course it is, but there is no quick fix. I wish there was, believe me.
