Hull City's busy start to the January transfer window is set to continue after the Tigers agreed a fee with Monaco for highly-rated midfielder Eliot Matazo.

The defensive midfielder will arrive in England with a fine reputation having played 84 times for Monaco having progressed through their acclaimed youth system after leaving Anderlecht. Matazo has appeared just three times in Ligue 1 this season, though he has made three appearances in the Champions League off the bench, including an outing against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium back in November.

Matazo has made only two starts amid seven appearances for Adi Hütter’s side across all competitions since the start of the current campaign, leaving him frustrated at the lack of opportunities, and City have swooped in to make what could be an eye-catching transfer, provided the Tigers can get the deal over the line.

Hull Live understands a fee in the region of £1.8m has been agreed upon by the French outfit for the 22-year-old Belgian youth international, with him due to have a medical on Monday ahead of signing a long-term contract on Tuesday.

Monaco's number eight has represented Belgium at Under-16, Under-18 and Under-21 level, to further underline his credentials.

The accomplished performer, who had a spell at Royal Antwerp on loan, was wanted by Nantes earlier this month, but Monaco's Ligue 1 rivals were unable to get a deal done, with City taking advantage of an impasse in negotiations.

Matazo's imminent arrival will come in the thick of a busy week at the MKM Stadium, both on and off the pitch.

Blackpool striker Kyle Joseph and Fenerbahce attacker Lincoln Henrique are both set to sign permanent and loan deals, respectively, while Ruben Selles' Tigers will go in search of a second successive win when they host QPR on Tuesday night before travelling to face promotion-chasing Sheffield United on Friday evening in front of the television cameras and a sold-out away following at Bramall Lane.
