Sean Dyche would expect to be involved in talks over player sales whatever offers come in for his Everton men.

Everton are operating within a difficult financial context this summer as the club attempts to deal with both regulatory and ownership challenges.

There is an expectation that players will be sold in order to meet those concerns but Blues boss Dyche is confident that any deals will not be done above his head.

Director of football Kevin Thelwell set out how Everton’s summer would look in the programme notes for the final home game of the season against Sheffield United. He acknowledged departures were expected while suggesting the club would be looking primarily at the free transfer and loan market as part of efforts to comply with profit and sustainability rules (PSR) and budgetary constraints considering huge questions remain about the ownership of the club with 777 Partners’ takeover attempt looking destined to collapse.

That outlook came as no surprise and the Blues may yet be forced to sell before June 30, the end of the football financial year, to try and comply with PSR rules for the first time in three years. Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana are among the players already attracting interest while Everton have offered new deals to Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young and triggered an option to extend Idrissa Gueye’s stay as a result.

While offers will be assessed against the wider backdrop of the club’s needs, Dyche would still expect to be part of the conversation in any deal. He said: “If it is about football then I will be involved. There might be a time when a number hits a number and it is common sense and that is not going to be a big debate. But anything football-wise, I am involved in.”
