More January business, the need for added experience and deserved three points - Cheltenham Town boss Michael Flynn after Salford City win
Would it be fair to say that was a deserved win?
Yes, I thought we stuck at it. They have some really good players. The boys were solid today, they didn't switch off. I know they scored right at the end and the bounce has killed Joe (Day), you expect it to bounce up a little bit and it's gone under. But Joe was excellent today, so calming, his kicking was good. We have the points and he's dragged the boys out of enough so he can be proud of his performance today. As a whole, our workrate...I think we should have scored more to be honest, against a good Salford team who have been on a very good run before the Man City (FA Cup) game.
Joe Day also made a terrific save in the first half didn't he?

Yes, unbelievable when (Conor) McAleny went through. That was the warning sign. Joe pulled the boys out of it. We should have scored a few more today.
Ethon Archer seemed to be back to his best, would that be fair?
Yes, he has had a bit of a lull, but when we bring in the likes of these players it takes time. Ethon has hit the ground running, he's been exceptional for us. But he was brought in to build him up and be a squad player. Him and Jordan (Thomas) will have their off days because you can't produce week-in, week-out the way we expect them to because the game is too intense. They are young lads, with not a lot of games under their belts. Credit to them today, they were both excellent.
A day Tommy Backwell won't forget in a hurry
No, I have to be honest for the first 10 or 15 minutes he was a bit nervous. But he has so much energy, we knew it'd be a scrappy game today and that's why we went for Tommy in that 10. A little bit different to Joel Colwill, or putting Ethan Williams in there. We just knew it'd be a scrappy game and Tommy is good at that. He gets around with good legs and energy and I am really pleased for him because he followed that in and he nearly scored before that with the header. I am sure he'll have a good night, but we had to take him off because he was running on empty, completely gone.
Is that a function of League football being so much more intense than he's used to?
Well it is. That's the be-all and end-all, it's a lot different to Under-23s football but he'll get there because he's a fit lad.
What did you expect from Salford when you were preparing for the game?
I was expecting a scrappy game today. They have good players everywhere, but so have we. That's my first win over Salford in the league. I've beaten them before in the cup. I am glad about that because I was starting to think it might never happen. They are a good team, Karl Robinson, Alex Bruce, Ryan Giggs on the touchline as well. They have a wealth of knowledge and they'll be there or thereabouts.
And once again you've taken on a team who have been on a good run and come out on top
Yes, we have. As I've said before, if we turn up, we are a match for anybody. We are proving this is a difficult place to come.
You have a couple of games before the end of the transfer window. Are you expecting business this week?
I don't know about this week, but yes I am expecting business.
Possibly it might go right to the wire?
Possibly, if I don't find the right one
Do you have the players lined up and is it a case of waiting for other clubs to give you permission to take them?
It's about getting it over the line, signed and in the building.
But you are very hopeful you will get two more in?
I am always hopeful.
What did you see in Tommy Backwell during his trial period that made you want to sign him?
Bags of energy. I don't mind saying this because fans will get to see the position we are in. We can't just go out and just buy or loan ready-made players. Tommy is very cheap on the budget, he is local, so he doesn't need accommodation, which is a big factor as well. We have a pool we can swim in and Tommy fitted into that. It was a no-brainer in that regard, and already he's shown it was well thought.
You have five loans now. Are you still considering a sixth, or only permanents now?
I'd prefer permanents, but I would do one more loan.
Is there scope to potentially bring in a player with some EFL experience?
I am trying. That would be the ideal. We are one or two leaders short of being a very, very good team.
