‘The more I look at it’ - Roy Keane shares Liverpool theory in Adam Lallana red card verdict

Roy Keane believes Adam Lallana was fortunate not to be sent off for a foul on Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch. The Southampton midfielder flew into a thumping challenge with the Dutchman in the first-half and was shown a yellow card.

The lunge from the 36-year-old left Gravenberch in a heap but there were no protests from Liverpool over the malice of the challenge. Lallana was one of three first-half cautions from referee Samuel Barrott with Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley going in the book.

The former Liverpool midfielder's involvement at St Mary's was over shortly after picking up a hamstring injury. And with Southampton having the full compliment of players on the pitch, they equalised shortly after when Adam Armstrong found the back of the net.

Armstrong's controversial equaliser overshadowed the challenge from Lallana, after Andy Robertson was adjudged to have fouled inside the box after VAR couldn't find conclusive evidence to suggest otherwise.

But former Manchester United midfielder, Keane, felt that the Saints should have been reduced to 10 men and if he made a similar challenge to Lallana, during his playing career, he'd have been shown a red card.

"I think so, look at him here, he’s not in control, he’s not even looking at the ball," Keane said on Sky Sports. "It’s something that I would’ve been sent off for and I probably would’ve had no complaints.

"They’ve probably looked at him and thought, ‘(Lallana) not the nasty type’. None of the Liverpool players were after him, ex teammate, I think he’s got away with one. The more I look at it, I think it’s a red."
