Morton dealt new Cappielow blow after stadium suffers major Storm Éowyn damage
GREENOCK Morton are the latest Inverclyde casualty to fall victim to Storm Éowyn as Cappielow Park suffered significant damage.
Winds gusting to around 90 miles per hour were predicted by the Met Office in a red 'danger to life' weather warning issued on Thursday.
The forecaster warned there was a high risk of damage to buildings and roofs in the affected areas.
And the Tele can reveal that Cappielow Park has sustained damage amid the stormy conditions.
Pictures show large section of the roof covering the Cowshed terraced stand has been ripped off by the howling gales, along with other sections of the stand.
One onlooker said that the extent of the damage may not end there, with pieces of debris visible from the damaged areas.
No-one was inside the stadium when the incident happened, with Morton's office staff having been told to work from home, along with employees at many other businesses across Inverclyde.
It's the second major incident to affect the stadium in little under three weeks, after a 'major gas leak' meant that Ton's Championship clash against Raith Rovers had to be postponed earlier this month.
That tie has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 25.

At present it's not yet known whether the Cowshed roof damage will have any impact on Cappielow's ability to host Morton's next home match, which isn't due to take place until February 15, when Airdrieonians are the visitors to Greenock.
The weather warning is in effect today from 10am to 5pm, before reducing to an amber alert for much of Saturday.

Businesses, schools and homes have been damaged as a result of swirling winds sweeping through Inverclyde and across the country.
It had been confirmed earlier this week that issue that had caused the gas leak had been resolved, only a few days before Storm Éowyn hit Inverclyde.
When approached for comment, a Morton spokesperson told the Tele that they will release a full statement when the full extent of the damages are known.
