Morton WFC boss wants side to build on positives ahead of Stenhousemuir clash
MORTON WFC boss Gary Forbes has challenged his side to add to their heroics from earlier on in the season as teams begin to recognise the threat they pose in the SWF Championship.
Ton are back in action this weekend with a ten point gap separating themselves and Westdyke in the relegation play-off spot and Forbes believes his side can extend that even further in the second half of the season.
Forbes says his side are now viewed differently (Image: Gary Bradley) Ton welcome Stenhousemuir to Parklea on Sunday as they look to get back to winning ways but Forbes revealed that he and his coaching staff are already trying to plan ahead beyond the end of the season to take the group as far as possible.
He told the Tele: "I think this season, for us, was about sustainability and being away from the relegation and play-off places first and foremost.
"We're doing that now and we're in a good position at the moment.
"We just need to take it game by game. Whatever we can do on top of that will be a bonus.
"It's about us adding to what's already here and building for next season.
"The coaching staff and I have already spoken about next season and what we want to do.
"We want to establish ourselves in the league this season and make sure that we're a force.
"Teams recognise that Morton mean business now. It's not the same team that it's been, and I believe teams have started to recognise that.
"I think that's testament to the girls as well, because they have put more points on the board, and scored more goals, than they did all of last season.
"It's now just about putting a consistent level of complete performances in.
"We just need to continue to do what we're doing and see how far that takes us in the second half of the season."
Shepherd says the side are growing together (Image: Gary Bradley) Ton are looking to react from a sore 5-2 defeat to Renfrew at New Western Park a fortnight ago.
It was a disappointing afternoon following the encouraging results and performances of previous weeks, but youngster Rowan Shepherd reckons that her side can bounce back from their setback in style.
She added: "It was quite sore coming off the back of a defeat like that, because we'd been on a couple of good runs of form.
"I can't speak on the game itself, but Renfrew are a really good team and I think the free week has given us a good chance to reset before looking to bounce back.
"It's given us a chance to get some extra rest, get some bodies back who have been carrying knocks.
"We're a young team, we're learning and improving all the time. We're growing as a team together so hopefully we can bounce back this weekend."
