Morton Women prodigy delighted to make senior debut despite Inverness defeat
MORTON WFC defender Kasey Burns couldn't hide her delight at making her senior football debut just weeks after signing for the club.
The 17-year-old put in a stellar performance, well beyond her years, despite falling on the wrong side of a 2-1 defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle Women at Parklea on Sunday in what was her first taste of first team football.
And despite feeling disappointed to have lost out to the title-chasing Caley Jags, Burns insists her side have set the tone for the second half of the campaign after dominating much of the game against the Highlanders.
"I'm really happy to have made my Morton debut," she said.
"I'd never really seen the girls play before, after only really meeting up with them for the first time the week before the winter break.
"Other than that I'd only seen clips from analysis. But I think everyone put in a really good performance against a side who are sitting second in the table.
"I think I can take a lot of positives from the game. Physically it was a big step up from what I'm used to - previously I've only played youth football, but I enjoyed the challenges that came with it.
"I wasn't expecting to get many minutes against Inverness, never mind the full game, so I'm delighted and it's something to build from.
"I think that the performance we put in, despite losing, can set the tone for the rest of the season.
"We don't want to be sitting towards the bottom of the table, so we're looking to bounce back by winning all three points."
