Arsenal are set to receive a vast financial windfall thanks to their impressive performances in the Champions League so far this season.

Mikel Arteta's side have collected five wins, one draw and one loss in their seven European fixtures - earning 16 points and an all-but-guaranteed spot in the round of 16.

Wednesday night's (January 22) dismantling of Croatian champions, Dinamo Zagreb, saw keeper David Raya earn a fifth clean sheet in the competition as the London club's impressive defensive form continues across the continent.

Only Inter Milan can better Arsenal's record of conceding just two goals in the competition's league stage.

But, it has been in front of goal where the Gunners have been failing to fire in recent weeks as Arteta searches for a striker to address a lack of goals from open play.

The Spaniard could be boosted in his hunt by a sizeable financial windfall afforded to him for his side's performances in the Champions League.

Let's take a look at how much Arsenal stand to gain from Europe's premium contest...

Champions League prize money

  • Winner : £21m

  • Runner-up : £15.6m

  • Semi-finalists : £12.6m

  • Quarter-finalists : £10.5m

  • Round of 16 : £9.3m

  • Reaching knockout round play-off : £843k

  • League-phase wins : £1.77m

  • League-phase draws : £590k

Arsenal's five wins and single draw have so far racked up £9.44 million in prize money - in addition to a payment of £15.3 million for qualifying for the competition proper.

If they were to notch another victory in their final league game against Girona, reaching the round of 16, then the total prize money would stand at £35.81million.

The costly exchange of players during the winter transfer window has diminished Arteta's hope of signing a goal scorer before February 3. With the promise of £35million before kicking a ball in the knockout stage of the Champions League, the club could be able to add more funds to its transfer kitty.

If the North London club were to go all the way in Europe and capture their first Champions League honour then they would expect to bank a further £69.2 million for winning all knockout games. This would make the lucrative campaign worth £105 million.
