Myziane Maolida has likely played his last game for Hibs after admitting he wants to reach the highest level.

The exciting frontman was one of few successes at Easter Road this season, scoring 11 goals in 20 appearances after joining in January on loan from Hertha Berlin. The 25-year-old has made it clear he wants to leave the German club this summer after falling out of favour and Maolida has suitors across Europe.

The Hibees support would love nothing more than to see the Comoros international return for next season but Maolida hinted he sees his future elsewhere. He said: "I have to see what is happening with Hertha now.

"I haven't had contact with them, but my agent has spoken to the sporting director. It's clear that I want to leave Hertha, so I will see what happens for the future. I want to play at the highest level I can. I will see what happens in the transfer market this summer."

Quizzed on a potential Hibs offer, Maolida added: "I don't know about the future. You'll have to see with Ben Kensell and the new sporting director Malky Mackay. I just tried my best here to help the team, show everybody I can play many games without injuries, and play with a good mentality. I'm happy. Now I have two games with Comoros against Madagascar and Chad. I will enjoy a break then prepare for these matches."

Despite Hibs enduring a miserable campaign by sacking two managers and failing to reach the top six, Maolida has relished the opportunity to play regular football in Edinburgh.

He said: "My mood has changed a lot. I was with the second team at Hertha Berlin, and I was very sad, it was bad in my head. These six months with Hibs have given me a lot for my career, for everything. I am grateful to the club, to Nick Montgomery and to the coaches.

"It's been a very good time for me. Everything was not perfect, but I tried my best. We tried for the top six, but didn't get there. We gave the maximum, but it was not enough. For me, I am happy because I helped the team with goals and assists.

"I also proved to myself that I can play many games, score goals and help a club like Hibs. They will always be very important to me. I would like to say thank you to all the people at the club, they helped me a lot. I had a very warm welcome from all the staff, players and fans. I want to say thank you because I felt very good here and enjoyed my football."

Meanwhile Maolida admits he'd love to see caretaker boss David Gray land the job on a permanent basis. He added: "He could be good because he knows the club - he played for Hibs - and he knows all the players. David could help the team to go to the best position."
