Former Aston Villa chief Keith Wyness doesn’t believe the possibility of Nassef Sawiris leaving the UK would have any impact on the football club.

The Egyptian currently resides in London and is often seen at Villa Park or at away grounds in the capital, but he is now said to be exploring options in the US and in Europe as potential new homes.

It comes after Egypt's richest man announced his plan to 'redomicile' his NNS Group family offices from London to Abu Dhabi in December 2023.

Bloomberg have reported that the 63-year-old is considering leaving the UK because of tax changes being brought in under the Labour government, although sources told the financial outlet that he may still change his mind.

Due to the government's budget adjustments, some of the wealthiest individuals in the UK are facing significant changes to their tax obligations.

However, Wyness - who worked at Villa under former owner Tony Xia - isn’t worried a potential move for Sawiris would negatively affect the club’s plans to continue competing at the top.

When asked about potential ramifications for Villa, Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s difficult to know because if it’s just a domicile for tax purposes, it won’t affect anything at all.

“That’s probably what the restructuring would be about. He’s spending a lot of time at the club, he’s loving it – he’s enjoying it.

“He’s in charge of a very big operation, he’s a very big player in the Middle East – there’s no doubt about it.

“So I think his love for Villa will maintain and his time there will carry on regardless. I think this is more tax restructuring than anything else. I don’t think it will affect Villa at all.”

Sawiris, who bought a 55 per cent controlling stake in Villa in 2018 alongside fellow billionaire Wes Edens, has an estimated net worth of around £6.35billion by Forbes.
