Mat Sadler is praying new Stoke City boss Mark Robins won't activate a January recall clause on prolific loanee Nathan Lowe.

Lowe, aged 19, scored his 17th goal of a brilliant season on New Year's Day to earn Walsall a 2-1 win at promotion-chasing Notts County and send his side a staggering 12 points clear at the top.

The Walsall boss has a good relationship with Stoke, also borrowing keeper Tommy Simkin for the season - and he might even see who else could be sent his way this month to bolster the Saddlers' title charge.

But he knows Lowe's short-term future will be up for discussion as Robins takes charge at the bet365 Stadium and he told The Sun: "We have nothing to say at all about that. There is a period in this month that allows him to be recalled but we work closely with Stoke, we have a fantastic relationship with them and are singing off the same hymn sheet.

"We have a really close relationship with sporting director Jon Walters and the loans manager there. I think that they are pleased with what Nathan has done and long may that continue.

"Everything can change but he's doing well and is a wonderful kid to work with. We take pride in taking care of him. Am I praying he stays? Yes. He's a wonderful lad. This is his first loan and he's taken to it like a duck to water.

"I'm really proud of the way we played (at Notts County). This is another memory on our journey. We looked like a team possessed and showed what we're all about."
