NBA: Rockets' Austin Rivers calls for dad to be ejected from Clippers bench
The idea that family comes first is a mantra as old as time itself. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be one that applies to one particular family in the NBA.
A brilliant moment during Houston Rockets’ 102-93 win over the LA Clippers saw Rockets star Austin Rivers call for the opposition coach to be ejected from the game.
However, the man Rivers successfully had removed from the bench just so happened to be his own dad, Doc.
Father and son went head-to-head as Rivers Sr took his side to Texas to face a Rockets side containing his second son Austin in their ranks.
With the home team leading in the fourth quarter the elder Rivers took exception to a call from the refs and made his feelings known to the officials.
Standing just a few feet away, the younger Rivers signalled that his old man be given a technical foul which ultimately saw Doc removed from proceedings.
“I enjoyed it a lot,” Austin chuckled afterwards. “I really did enjoy that. It was fun”
“He is actually sensitive with stuff like that so we will see what happens but I love him.”
Doc’s mood wouldn’t have been improved by the fact his son’s side went on to claim victory.
