Nelson Khumbeni completes permanent move to Gillingham
Wanderers youngster Nelson Khumbeni has completed a permanent move to Gillingham for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper over a two-and-a-half-year deal at the Priestfield Stadium.
"I am delighted, I am very excited and cannot wait to get started," he told the club site. "Whenever my chance comes I've got to be ready.
"I haven't been here for other clubs but I have friends who have said nothing but good things about it, in terms of facilities you can utilise to get better. Every day is a learning day, I will give my all."
Khumbeni spent the first half of the season on loan at Accrington Stanley, making 24 appearances for the Reds.
He scored a superb strike against Wimbledon in November and started the FA Cup tie at Liverpool last weekend, getting the chance to test himself against the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai and Diogo Jota.
Khumbeni joined Wanderers’ B Team ranks in the summer of 2022 following a spell at Norwich and impressed in the Central League.
He also had loan stints at AFC Fylde and Morecambe last term in the National League and League Two respectively to get valuable experience under his belt.
The midfielder will now play under John Coleman, who took charge at Gillingham earlier this month, as the Gills aim to climb up the League Two table.
Khumbeni's departure comes after Conor Carty completed a permanent move to League of Ireland club St Patrick's Athletic.
