How did the players fare in Newcastle United's 3-2 win at Birmingham City?

BIRMINGHAM (4-2-3-1):

Peacock-Farrell 6; Laird 7, Klarer 5, Davies 7, Cochrane 6 (Dykes 75); Leonard 6 (Willumsson 62, 5), IWATA 7 (Hanley 84); Wright 6 (Bielik 75), Dowell 6, Anderson 7 (May 75); Stansfield 7.

Subs (not used): Allsop (gk), Jutkiewicz, Sampsted, Harris.

NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):

6 Pope: Made an important late save to enable Newcastle to see things out and didn’t have a chance with either goal

6 Livramento: Had some shaky moments, but kept pressing forward and was involved in two of his side’s goals

5 Krafth: Struggled on his return to the starting side, especially when Birmingham’s forwards were turning him

5 Burn: Had an uncomfortable time against Birmingham’s lively forwards being being replaced early in the second half

6 Targett: Tried to get forward to help with Newcastle’s attacking, but had some difficult moments defensively

5 Longstaff: Wasn’t able to dictate things in midfield, and gave the ball cheaply on a number of occasions

6 Miley: Became more and more of an influence as the game went on – needs some game time to rediscover his rhythm

5 Guimaraes: Wasn’t able to exert his usual level of control during a frantic first half – replaced at the break

8 Osula: His best display in a Newcastle shirt as he was involved in the first two goals

6 Wilson: Proved his goalscoring instincts remain as sharp as ever as he hooked home Newcastle’s second goal

8 WILLOCK: Scored two goals and was the Newcastle player that caused the Birmingham defence most problems

Subs:

7 Tonali (for Guimaraes, 46): Helped Newcastle gain the upper hand in the second half

6 Schar (for Burn, 55): Wasn’t happy when he was bundled into the advertising hoardings

6 Murphy (for Wilson, 55): Wasted a couple of decent late openings with some tame shooting

Isak (for Osula, 90+12)

(not used): Dubravka (gk), Ruddy (gk), Trippier, Hall, Tonali, Neave.

Man Of The Match: JOE WILLOCK – The Newcastle midfielder scored two goals and seemed to enjoy playing higher up the pitch.
