Newcastle swap transfer simply doesn't make sense as £55m verdict given on summer move
The January transfer window is now into its fourth week with Newcastle United among the clubs linked with an interest in several players.
Clubs will be looking to use the mid-season window to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season. But time is quickly running out with the window closing in less than two weeks, on Monday, 3 February.
Eddie Howe's side continue to be linked with several moves. Here’s a look at the latest news and rumours...

Over in Italy, Calciomercato report on an interest from Newcastle in Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz. The former Aston Villa man has struggled for regular game time since making the move in the summer, with him linked with a move back to the Premier League.
Newcastle are reportedly joined by Man City, Villa and Nottingham Forest in there interest. The report however goes on to moot a possible swap deal between Newcastle and Juventus.
It suggests that Sandro Tonali could go to Juve with Luiz coming the other way. It’s a deal that is described by the outlet as ‘logical and satisfying’ for both clubs.
ChronicleLive says: While the move may make a lot of sense for Juventus, I don't think the same can be said for Newcastle. Tonali has impressed under Eddie Howe so far this season, so swapping him for a player who has struggled for regular game time with his club wouldn't be the smartest of moves.
If a swap deal is what Juve demand for Luiz, then Newcastle will be best moving on and sticking with Tonali.
Elsewhere, Newcastle could have competition for two of their targets - from Manchester United. The Daily Mail name Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Lille’s Jonathan David on a four-man list of striking targets for Ruben Amorim’s side.
As reported by ChronicleLive, the Magpies have joined the race for David, having sent a high-level club employee to Lille’s victory over Nice at the weekend. The Canada international is out of contract in the summer, and there is expected to be a big race for his signature.
Bryan Mbeumo is another forward who Newcastle have been linked with this month. Brentford boss Thomas Frank gave a clear response when asked if Mbeumo could be leaving this month, with the Bees reportedly pitting a £50 million price tag on the player.
Another player Newcastle are said to be showing an interest in is Southampton’s Tyler Dibling. The Magpies, along with Tottenham Hotspur are the two Premier League clubs linked with an interest, but they also face competition from German side RB Leipzig.
According to Sky German’s Florian Plettenberg, Leipzig are willing to pay €30 million (£25.3m) for the winger, but that is much lower than Southampton’s demands.
TalkSPORT add that the Saints do not want to sell the teenager in January. Dibling is said to be stalling on signing a new deal at St Mary’s, but is not pushing for a winter exit, with his current contract ending in 2027.
ChronicleLive says: Tyler Dibling would certainly be a good signing for Newcastle, given what he has shown in the Premier League so far this season at just 18-years-old. Latest reports say that Southampton won't entertain bids of less than £55 million for the teenager, which is likely to put him out of Newcastle's price range in January.
However, it's a move that they should revisit in the summer if he is still available. Should the Saints be relegated at the end of the season, Dibling could be available in a cut-price deal.
