Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has confessed he is braced for the exit of Miguel Almiron's exit from St James' Park.

The head coach has a £10million move to Atlanta United lined up and the Magpies hierarchy have sanctioned the decision if the price is right. Howe is taking the situation day by day and the Paraguay international but sporting director Paul Mitchell is working behind the scenes on his transfer.

Howe even admitted that playing Almiron against AFC Bournemouth was a risk, given any injury could end the player's season and the club's hope of a sale.

Howe, who feels losing a winger would be tough, said: "The latest is we expect him for training today and in the squad tomorrow. Yeah with him, anything can happen at this moment. He's been top class. He lives his life through the football club. It's not ideal but that's the reality of PSR."

Howe does not see the situation surrounding Almiron as "ideal" but feels that the club must work within the tight PSR framework they find themselves bound by. The head coach said: "It's not ideal, but I don't think it's ideal from anyone's viewpoint. We don't want to lose players, but we know there's a reality to PSR.

"We don't want to lose players but we know that there's a reality with PSR and the ongoing managing of that situation.

"So we've said many times over the last few weeks we'll make more decisions not based on football, but based on decisions that we potentially have to make for the future."

"He's happy, a brilliant professional. He will come in every day and his training performances, his focus, his personality has been consistent. I've no issues with him on that side."

Almiron was on the wanted list of Charlotte FC before the MLS side moved on to other targets. However, Atlanta have moved swiftly to secure their former star and a switch back to Mercedes-Benz Arena now seems likely for the 30-year-old.
