Newcastle United have "completed" the transfer of Turkish 18-year-old Baran Yildiz from Genclerbirligi - according to a claim by their general manager.

The deal is yet to be confirmed by Newcastle although interest in the player was stood up last Friday before deadline day passed. United see the 18-year-old as an exciting prospect and a star that could impact the senior squad in time.

The club's GM, Ali Ekber Düzgün said in a statement to Turkish media: "Baran Yıldız's transfer to Newcastle United has been completed. Official signatures have also been made.

"The transfer of one of our players from our infrastructure to a Premier League team is an important success for both Gençlerbirliği and our player. I hope he successfully represents Gençlerbirliği abroad like Arda Güler. We wish him success in his career."

A contract until 2029 is on the table for the teenager with Newcastle looking to win the race for his signature this weekend. Sporting director Paul Mitchell has been working closely with Academy staff to get the deal over the line.

The Super Lig side say that selling Yildiz to the Magpies can help them bolster their own finances with Real Madrid and Turkey star Arda Guler one of their success stories of the past.

A fee that could eventually amount to £2.5million has been claimed in the Turkish media. Newcastle are in the market for younger players despite no senior breakthroughs this month. They have already signed up Irish whizzkid Kyle Fitzgerald from Galway and Yidiz's arrival could soon follow.
