Newcastle United could net seven-figure windfall from Juventus after 'intense' transfer chief mission
Newcastle United defender Lloyd Kelly remains on the Juventus wish-list with sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli making a trip to London to discuss talks with intermediaries on a possible deal.
The Serie A side's opening offer for a loan deal with an option was dismissed by the Magpies out of hand. And only a loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the season, providing the price is right, interests Newcastle.
Juventus and Giuntoli have turned their attention back to former AFC Bournemouth man Kelly after failing to land Renato Veiga from Chelsea. The Italian side did not want to pay an extortionate loan fee of around £4million to hire the Portugal international who has started just once in the Premier League for Chelsea.

Giuntoli told Italian reporters: "We don't want to look at outgoing business but intend to implement the squad. For the defence we will focus on guys who can give us a hand."
Sources in Turin have told Chronicle Live today that Giuntoli is eager to draw up a new "list of conditions" on Kelly with a potential new fee for an obligation. Newcastle, who signed Kelly on a free transfer, are believed to value the 25-year-old at £25m.
Whether United may be tempted to cash in on a loan deal, with PSR in mind, remains to be seen. But the prospect of loaning Kelly until the end of the season and guaranteeing a seven-figure loan fee would at least bank a handy cheque between now and the end of the campaign.
Juve are open to loan fees and have paid as much as £7m to borrow senior star Nico Gonzalez this season from Fiorentina so it depends on the tipping point from the former Champions League winners. It is also said from those close to the club that their budget is running low after boss Thigao Motta was handed a £170m war chest last summer.
Yet the football argument remains for Eddie Howe with Kelly deemed a vital back-up player in the even Dan Burn or Sven Botman picks up an injury. With left-sided youngster Alex Murphy sent to Bolton Wanderers on loan Newcastle would be a little light in the centre-back department.
Howe would be forced to dip into the Under-21s for cover if he were to suffer any centre-back crisis and Kelly's exit was sanctioned. Newcastle fielded Cathal Heffernan and North Shields youngster Ciaran Thompson at the heart of their second string defence last night against Gateshead in the National Cup.
Alfie Harrison, Josh Donaldson, Garang Kuol and Darren Palmer all scored in a 4-2 victory at the International Stadium.
