Arsenal finding Alexander Isak transfer 'impossible'
Amid talk of an improved contract for Isak at Newcastle, Fabrizio Romano has provided a welcome update.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: "Arsenal made a call in recent weeks to understand the situation of [Jhon] Duran because [Benjamin] Sesko, at the moment, no green light from RB Leipzig.
"Alexander Isak, the dream target of Arsenal, is super expensive - almost impossible, very complicated."
So, while the Sweden international, 25, may be top of the Gunners' list, the unlikelihood of a deal being struck has forced them to turn to new targets, namely Duran from Aston Villa.
Romano added: "However, no bid, no direct negotiation with Aston Villa. They want to keep the player at the club so let's see what's going to happen."
Mikel Arteta on Myles Lewis-Skelly appeal outcome
Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly will now be free to play in the upcoming Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle at St. James' Park after the FA rescinded his sending off against Wolves as a wrongful dismissal.
The 18-year-old full-back received a straight red card from Michael Oliver, meaning he would miss three matches initially, but that will now not be the case.
Our colleagues at football.london covered Mikel Arteta's reaction. The Gunners boss said: "Yeah, obviously, really happy that the decision has been made and Myles is going to be available for us.
He added, when asked about the player's reaction to the news: "He was sleeping on the plane when I look to him when I got the news."
The Magpies have one foot in March's final at Wembley Stadium following a 2-0 first leg victory away from home. Isak and Anthony Gordon netted the goals.
