What Newcastle United can expect on transfer deadline day with departures on the cards
Newcastle United defender Lloyd Kelly's exit to join Serie A side Juventus is expected to be the main headline for the Magpies on deadline day.
The defender touched down in Turin last night and went through his medical as Newcastle sources suggested that his sale does not mean that additions will be on the way on the last day of winter trading. Yet that doesn't mean there won't be further departures for Eddie Howe.
The Kelly transfer got the green light on Saturday evening just hours after what looks like his farewell appearance for the club. Kelly will join on an initial loan deal with Juventus, told that they must commit to a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

In any other circumstances, getting £20million for a player signed on a free transfer from AFC Bournemouth just six months ago represents good business. But with Newcastle knowing they have a thin layer of defensive cover beneath Dan Burn, Fabian Schar and Sven Botman, it feels like the wrong time.
Skipper Jamaal Lascelles will be back soon but the ex-Nottingham Forest man's return will be in March according to Howe. Losing Kelly now seems like a risk but one the board seem prepared to take.
Odysseas Vlachodimos
The Greek goalkeeper appears to be surplus to requirements at Newcastle after a £20million move in the summer from Nottingham Forest. He was wanted by Al-Shabab at one stage in the window but the Saudi Pro League side have not filled that position.
Left out for the FA Cup tie against Bromley on third round day, the ex-Benfica and Forest stopper seems to be available for a transfer. If Newcastle got a bid on the last day of the window he could be moved on.
Martin Dubravka will soon sign a new contract and at 36 he is deemed first choice at the moment with Nick Pope battling for his place. Newcastle could afford to lose Vlachodimos as they have John Ruddy and Mark Gillespie as further cover.
Like Kelly, this feels like a summer transfer that never worked out at St James' Park.
Sean Longstaff
There's been late interest from Everton but no bid has been forthcoming so far for the North Shields lad. Longstaff may feel he is better staying on to fight for his place.
After a midfield no show against Fulham, he has every right to knock on the manager's door. But he remains a reliable option for the Magpies.
The summer could be a better window for him to weigh up options of a move. But with the late twists in this window, you never know what will happen.
Kieran Trippier
The England full-back is wanted by Turkish table-toppers Galatasaray. The interest in the 34-year-old isn't new but the catch for Newcastle is that the Istanbul outfit want a loan deal with a view to a permanent.
Howe pinpointed Trippier's contributions against Fulham on Saturday night and suggested he is not willing to part with the ex-England star. Howe said: "I thought Kieran Trippier made a difference when he came on, adding some control with the ball."
Trippier was then sent for a rigorous warm-down after the defeat and he could even start against Arsenal in midweek as Howe eyes experience in the intense second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal.
Crucially, the Turkish transfer window remains open until February 11. If a financial agreement was reached, Trippier could go later and Howe could use the star in the last four shoot out against the Gunners.
