Newcastle United quietly pocketed £115,000 after negotiating their FA Cup third round tie against Bromley at St James' Park.

In a competition that was once ditched by the Magpies under the previous management, with Alan Pardew told to prioritise Premier League survival ahead of a cup run, the club's Saudi-backers now believe it can provide another timely PSR boost. The likes of sporting director Paul Mitchell and commercial chief Peter Silverstone have already stated that every penny made off the field will go to buying players on it.

That is the prize for progressing to round four this season and another £120,000 will be on the line for next month's trip to Birmingham City. By the time the TV appearance money from the Bromley game plus gate receipts are factored in, not to mention another sold out STACK just down the road from St James' on Sunday, the money is starting to pour in already from another possible cup run for Eddie Howe's side.

If the Carabao Cup feels like it is more about love rather than money for Newcastle, with just £100,000 handed to the winners for the actual prize pot, the FA Cup can be much more lucrative. Round five offers a prize of £225,000 and it won't be lost on Newcastle commercial chief Peter Silverstone.

Success in the quarter-finals is worth £450,000 per club while the semi-finalists can earn £1m for a win and £500,000 for a defeat, not to mention a Wembley pay day. The eventual winners get £2m plus a place in Europe and the losers earn £1m.

The other domestic financial boost on offer to the Magpies is of course the Carabao Cup. United are just 90 minutes away from a return to Wembley after their 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg win over Arsenal. Eddie Howe's side must now negotiate the second leg at St James' Park next month to book their place to face either Liverpool or Tottenham in the final.

Spurs have a 1-0 lead going into their second leg at Anfield, with the winners of both ties meeting at Wembley in March. However, the prize money on offer in the EFL competition might surprise you.

As the Magpies' trophy hunt nears its 56th year, we all know their pursuit of silverware is driven by passion rather than financial gain. Their quarter-final win over Brentford earned them £25,000, added to the £15,000 they collected for beating Chelsea in round three and £7000 for the win over AFC Wimbledon in the second round.

Another £25,000 is available in the semi-finals, while the eventual winners will receive just £100,000 - a stark contrast to the wealth available in the Champions League or even the Europa Conference League.

Of course, gate receipts must also be considered for Newcastle, and two home matches against Wimbledon, Chelsea, Brentford and the second leg to come against Arsenal, will have brought in valuable funds for the club's PSR cause. Winning the cup would still be a monumental achievement for Newcastle, opening the door back into Europe and the potential for a surge in merchandise sales for a possible return trip to Wembley.
