Newcastle United forced to alter their January plans because of double injury setback
NEWCASTLE UNITED have had to alter their loan plans for the January window after Ben Parkinson and Jay Turner-Cooke both suffered injuries that will prevent them from leaving Tyneside this month.
Both youngsters had been earmarked for Football League loan months in the next few days, but those plans have now been abandoned because of injury setbacks.
Durham-born Parkinson, a 19-year-old striker, would have been making his first senior loan move after an impressive first half of the season at Under-21s level. The academy product, who made his Premier League debut as a substitute at Bournemouth last season, has scored 11 goals in 15 games with the Under-21s this term, and had been the subject of interest from a number of clubs in the EFL.
Turner-Cooke has had previous loan spells at Tranmere Rovers and St Johnstone, and was set to embark on a third stint away from St James’ Park this month.
However, injuries have scuppered Newcastle’s plans, with the pair both having been unavailable for Tuesday’s Under-21s win over Gateshead in the National League Cup.
“I think Parky will probably be another four or five weeks, I would have thought,” revealed Newcastle Under-21s boss Diarmuid O’Carroll. “He's progressing well. He's working hard.
“Jay will be a little bit quicker - we're hoping for Jay maybe in the next ten days, two weeks, he’ll be available for us.

Outgoing defensive deal from Newcastle United is completed and confirmed
“But ultimately, it was a blow for both of them. They're both probably players that we looked at and thought it's time for them to go out, similar to Charlie (McArthur, who has joined Carlisle United on loan).
“Credit to both of them because it's been difficult mentally for them off the back of little innocuous injuries in training and training games. It was unfortunate, but they've shown maturity, they've attacked the gym and got around it and hopefully they can benefit from this period and come back in with us, probably from February onwards.
“Jay’s is just a twist but Parky's is more serious - it will put him out till probably until the start of March.”
Harrison Ashby is currently out on loan, but the 23-year-old defender suffered a difficult night on Tuesday as he was substituted as a substitute during QPR’s 2-1 win over Hull City.
Ashby was brought on in the 75th minute as QPR were hanging on to their lead at the MKM Stadium, but was taken back off in the second minute of stoppage time as he was replaced by former Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback.
