Newcastle United head into 2025 with a renewed sense of optimism and plenty of developments to look forward to.

Eddie Howe's team has bounced back from a challenging period in the Premier League, with their final win of the calendar year coming against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night. However, it's not just on-field performances that have Magpies fans eagerly anticipating the next 12 months.

Exciting developments are underway, including new stadium proposals, the appointment of a new CEO, promising revenue figures, and significant transfer activity on the horizon. Chronicle Live recently reported that Newcastle insiders have been privy to stunning draft images of a potential new St James' Park and an alternative stadium move.

After months of anticipation and subtle hints from stadium project lead Brad Miller, a major announcement is being prepared for United fans. Miller has spoken of "two options" under consideration as the club weighs a "once in a generation" decision.

In November, during a fan event at the STACK, Miller outlined the choices: "The first option is staying at St James' with the existing 52,000 seats. If we transform it, it will come with significantly more funding and will look amazing. That's option one. Option two... The second option, which involves a slight relocation, is being seriously considered as it could potentially generate more than double the revenue compared to a transformation of St James' Park. This option could also offer significantly more seating capacity. As one source has already informed Chronicle Live, whatever decision is made will be seen as a "win, win" for the Toon Army.

And now supporters, writing in the Chronicle Live comments section, have had their say. Oldcoop hopes: “The decision will be to build a new stadium. I fear that I will soon have to give up going to matches at SJP as the space between rows of seats is too small. I have arthritis in my knees and to sit in my present seat is becoming increasingly painful because my shoes are pressed hard up against the seat in front and I have to bend my legs under me. I also suspect that those who are taller than me are feeling uncomfortable as their knees are also pressed up against the seat in front or they have to sit with their knees wide apart much to the annoyance of those in adjacent seats.”

ComicAls replied: “We've played at SJP for over a hundred years. I'm pretty sure we must have had many long legged supporters in that time. Building a new stadium isn't going to necessarily give you more leg space as its main purpose is to increase the crowd capacity.”

SteHall thinks: “It has to be a new stadium as we need the revenue to afford to pay the bills in the future. We have a waiting list for season tickets that could be filled to the brim in a new place. We all have great fond memories of SJP, but that is the past. The future is where we have to focus and we need to remember this is a business. We had our hands tied with the previous owner who had no ambition. Now back the ambition of our owners and move forward.”

Dannitoon said: “It's great the club feels it necessary to show us both options, but I think as fans our hearts will always rule our heads. I’d love nothing more than a 90k St James' Park where we are now but I know it's not possible. We need to move, as long as we are still in Newcastle, preferably in the city but priority is to grow as a club and as a city.”

Sigue69 added: “I really hope some of the old timers don't kick up too much of a fuss when the club announces a new Stadium. Just remember it's all for the better of the club, so stop thinking about yourself and think about the future. Change is always hard. The stadium of light gets all these concerts and we get hardly anything. Just look at the Tottenham stadium and how much it increased the revenue, we can't stand still. Just imagine the kind of stadium our owners would build, it would be mind blowing and open so many doors.”

Jonnythebrave thinks: “Once the move is made and games start taking place, it will all soon be forgotten. People will have their memories and will talk fondly of them but will be equally making new ones and like Spurs, Man City and Arsenal fans, wouldn't want to go back! Those that want to cling to the past, are not thinking about or considering anything else. They won't give any positives to moving because that would add weight to that option and so they can only cling to SJP and won't even listen to the options. But, if the decision was made to move, it would still be Newcastle United, it would still be our club, and when said fans walk out to their seats in a new all purpose built state of the art arena with better facilities and match day hospitality, and they see 80,000 fans cheering a team that we can now invest in, they will soon get on board with it!”

And Tooner can’t wait, saying: “What’s the delay?! Just do a Spurs and overlap the new stadium where possible and get that 80,000 capacity stadium made into a reality.”
