Newcastle United are getting closer to sealing their first summer transfer in Antonio Condero, according to reports in Spain. The 18-year-old has been tracked by Newcastle for some time as he is coming to the end of his contract at Malaga at the end of the season.

Cordero, who also goes by the nickname Antonito, has so far refused to sign a new deal with the Spanish side, giving Newcastle a transfer incentive. As he is out of contract in a few months, his future seems to be becoming clearer amid interest from Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Spanish outlet El Desmarque, Cordero is 'very close' to signing for a new club, describing his chances of signing a new deal with Malaga as 'non-existent.' It's said that Malaga's proposal was deemed as 'insufficient' by the youngster, who is 'getting closer and closer' to a move to St James' Park.

His solid performances in the second division of Spanish football is also believed to have caught the eye of both Arsenal and Manchester City. Both teams are claimed to be 'awaiting' Cordero's next steps.

However, the report states that 'everything points' to a move to Newcastle as negotiations are 'close to being finalised.' But Newcastle have been warned that a last minute change 'cannot be ruled out.'

The 18-year-old would be classed as a first-team signing for Eddie Howe and go into the squad in pre-season. In the past, going toe-to-toe with Real Madrid and Barcelona could have ended badly for the Magpies.

However, the prospect of regular game time at senior level and playing in the Premier League is certainly an attractive appeal for the winger, who could be set to make a huge step in his youth career.

When asked about his future in December, Cordero said: "Right now I am at Málaga. I try to enjoy every day, surrounded by my teammates and the mister, who has a lot of faith in me. Enjoy it, then we will see and whatever has to happen, happens."
