Newcastle United handed huge FA Cup backing as Liverpool and Chelsea crash out
Newcastle United's odds on lifting the FA Cup have been slashed followed their fourth-round success at Birmingham City - coupled with more big-name exits.
Eddie Howe's side are looking to end their 70-year domestic trophy drought this season, and have already booked their place in the Carabao Cup final next month, where they will face Liverpool. Now they have been installed as second-favourites to win the presitgious FA Cup after the fourth-round action.
United are awaiting to hear their fifth-round opponents in tonight's draw, but saw several rivals exit the competition last weekend. Arsenal were already out, having lost to Manchester United in round three, but they were joined by Liverpool, who suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle.

Chelsea and Tottenham's campaigns are also over after they lost to Brighton and Aston Villa respectively. Last year's beaten finalists Manchester City are now the 2/1 favourites, but Newcastle are second on the list, priced at 5/1 from Betfair, in from 17/2. They are ahead of Manchester United (6/1), Aston Villa (15/2) and Premier League high-flyers AFC Bournemouth (8/1), although those odds will likely change after tonight's draw.
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Odds have been slashed on Newcastle winning the FA Cup after scraping past Birmingham on Saturday. The Carabao Cup finalists are now into 5/1 having been 17/2 before the 3-2 win at St Andrews, with Man United now into 6/1 from 15/2. Man City remain favourites at 2/1 to lift a third FA Cup trophy under Pep Guardiola. Elsewhere, Bournemouth are 8/1 to win the cup, with Nottingham Forest 16/1 to lift the trophy, alongside Crystal Palace, who are 20/1. Meanwhile, amongst the outsiders are Ipswich, 66/1 and Burnley 100/1.”
