Newcastle United may be focusing on a busy run of games this month, not least the Carabao Cup Final clash with Liverpool at Wembley, but they'll also have one eye on the summer transfer window.

The loss of Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon through injury and suspension has only highlighted the lack of depth in the Magpies' current squad, with Eddie Howe hoping for busier summer months.

The Toon continue to be linked with a number of potential incoming and outgoing transfers with ChronicleLive taking a look at the latest news and rumours doing the rounds.

Juventus star emerges as Alexander Isak alternative

TVPlay, part of the Gazzetta dello Sport group, claim that Newcastle have joined the race to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic as a replacement for Alexander Isak this summer. The report references transfer talk linking the Swedish striker with Barcelona this summer, with the 25-year-old said to be their main transfer target.

Vlahovic, who was linked with a move to St. James' Park prior to joining the Old Lady, has struggled to impress Thiago Motta this season despite scoring nine goals in Serie A. There are said to be question marks about his ability to fit in with the style of play at Juve and doubts about his consistency.

The Serbian striker's current deal expires at Juventus in 2026 and he has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months, with Arsenal also on the hunt for a striker. The Italian side are said to be asking for a fee in the region of €30million (£25.1m) for Vlahovic.

ChronicleLive says: "Reports linking Alexander Isak with a move away from St. James' Park continue to do the rounds, despite the Magpies' clear stance: he is not for sale. That being said, Vlahovic would be an exciting addition to the Magpies' squad this summer for the reported transfer fee. If Newcastle are to make an approach, it should be to provide competition for Isak, not as a replacement. If the club are serious about competing for silverware, they need to improve the quality across the squad with Callum Wilson out of contract this summer."

Ademola Lookman on Newcastle's list of summer targets

Ademola Lookman continues to be linked with a move to St. James' Park ahead of the summer transfer window with former Manchester United scout Mick Brown claiming the Magpies have scouted the Atalanta forward.

"Lookman is on their list of targets for the summer," he told Football Insider. "Their scouts have been over to Italy to have a look at him.

"So if they’ve done their job and identified him as somebody who would solve one of the problems within their squad, they’ll make that move. I must admit I never thought he would be good enough to be part of that upper-echelon of players, but since he went out to Italy he’s proved me wrong, and fair play to him.

"Newcastle will now be looking to see whether he’s somebody who would improve them. We’ve spoken before about their need to sign a right-winger and he’s versatile enough to do that.

"That’s something Eddie Howe likes from his players as well, the ability to play in more than one position if they are required to fill in elsewhere. There are a few positions in the team they want to replace. Jacob Murphy and Wilson are both not good enough, so Lookman would go some way towards replacing those players."

ChronicleLive says: "Lookman is a player that Newcastle are keeping an eye on and it wouldn't be a surprise if they do make a move this summer. He's proven himself in Europe and the Serie A but his goal scoring record in the Premier League isn't great. PSR will be at the forefront of discussions once again."
