Newcastle United have landed a home tie in the last 16 of the FA Cup - after being paired with Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion.

The clash against the Seagulls is the reward for beating Birmingham City in the fourth round at St Andrew's on Saturday night. And it give Newcastle the chance of some revenge after losing to Fabian Hürzeler's men earlier this season.

And while it won't be easy for Eddie Howe's side against the South Coast outfit it gives them an opportunity to reach the quarter-finals in front of their own fans. One fan said on social media: "I'd have taken any home tie!"

While another noted: "I’ll take Brighton at home. It’s not Man City, Bournemouth or Forest." Brighton set up the tie with a 2-1 victory at home to Chelsea while Newcastle indeed avoided the remaining big guns in the competition.

Newcastle are now 7-1 to win the FA Cup but are now just 90 minutes from the last eight and a potential 180 minutes away from a second Wembley visit of the season. Indeed, the semi-finals will be played beneath the famous Wembley arch in spring and confidence is growing that Newcastle can push on in another domestic cup.

United were dumped out of the FA on the South Coast in 2012 and 2013 under Alan Pardew when the Londoner fielded weakened teams and was punished by the then lower league Seagulls.

Ties in the fifth round will be played across the weekend of Saturday, 1st March 2025. More information, including ticket details, will be confirmed on newcastleunited.com in due course.
