Newcastle United linked with Tyler Dibling & James McAtee as Everton give Dominic Calvert-Lewin stance
Newcastle United are yet to make an official approach for Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the January window but with Everton in need of some January trading the transfer was hardly played down by the Toffees yesterday.
The Magpies were interested in the Sheffield-born star in the summer trading period before talks broke down as the two clubs discussed a fee for Yankuba Minteh, who eventually signed for Brighton & Hove Albion instead. Calvert-Lewin is a potential target as a back-up striker for Alexander Isak with Callum Wilson set to miss the early stages of 2025 and Newcastle lacking senior cover.
It was last summer, when the PSR health check deadline and the prospect of points deductions for United loomed, that Calvert-Lewin was an option for Eddie Howe. Eddie Howe likes the striker and the Sheffield-born forward came with a recommendation from his old team-mate Anthony Gordon. Despite concerns on his injury record, the striker has made 16 starts for Everton in the Premier League and scored twice.

When asked about interest from both Serie A and Newcastle on Calvert-Lewin, Dyche played down any immediate talks but did not rule out future approaches, he said: "No contact from anyone. There’s bound to be rumours and conjecture.
"That’s the nature of it. We will think about it if that happens.
"As there’s been no contact, there’s no discussions needed."
Tyler Dibling
The teenager is no stranger to Newcastle scouts after scoring a hat-trick at St James' Park in front of club chiefs back in 2022 for the Under-21s. That night, Newcastle bosses ordered the backroom team to take an immediate look into Dibling's background, but the Magpies were eventually pipped by Chelsea.
However, Dibling, then just 17, could not settle in London and he moved back to his youth team club Southampton. Since then he has settled down on the South Coast and has made 36 top-flight appearances, scoring nine times and making five assists.
He is still under contract until 2027 but with the Saints staring an immediate return to the Championship in the face, Newcastle look keen on the right winger again. He has a current market value of around £20million.
James McAtee
The attacking midfielder spent two seasons on loan at Sheffield United in the Championship then the Premier League. He headed back to his parent club Man City in the summer after a series of bids for his services, reportedly around the £30million mark, from the likes of Leicester City and Nottingham Forest.
At City, McAtee has just 18 months left on his contract and has been restricted to just three Premier League starts despite the champions having a tough season. The Salford-born winger is set to be one of the most talked about potential Premier League transfers again in the January window, and unsurprisingly, Newcastle have been heavily linked already.
