Newcastle United have already missed out on signing Anthony Gordon's dream team-mate. The winger has revealed who he would love to partner with in the black and white shirt.

Gordon has again been a stand-out performer for the Magpies this season. The forward has bounced back from a slow start to the campaign to find his best form again, registering nine goals and six assists to help Newcastle to another Wembley cup final.

The Scouser has struck up a great partnership this season with fellow forward Alexander Isak. The dynamic duo have terrorised most defences in the Premier League, and gave Arsenal's backline sleepless nights in both legs of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Newcastle's attacking options remain a little thin on the ground, however. Miguel Amiron's departure to Atlanta United in the transfer window left United short of wide players, though Harvey Barnes and Callum Wilson's return from injury are a positive step as the club goes into a crunch spell.

There will undoubtedly be a significant summer spend as Eddie Howe looks to add reinforcements to his squad to push on to the next level. And in a feature interview with That’s Football, Gordon was asked the one England teammate he’d love to bring to Newcastle.

The winger plumped for Cole Palmer. The Chelsea star has had a meteoric 18 months since swapping Manchester City for Stamford Bridge, was named England's player of the year and is seen as one of the best attacking players in the country.

Gordon admits that he's not sure Palmer would be the best fit for Howe's Newcastle, given their love of pressing, but he still thinks the 23-year-old - who operates either as a No.10 or from the right wing - is the one player he's want alongside him in black and white.

"I'm thinking about this logically because I don't want to displace anyone," said Gordon, who joined Newcastle in January 2023. "Right now I’d probably go for Cole. I don't think he'd suit our style of play at all. We have a pressing style of play, but his quality and what he's doing at the minute, I'd probably pick Cole."

Ironically, the two men could have already been teammates. Back in 2022, when Palmer was languishing on the fringes of Man City's first team, Newcastle made a move to bring the winger in on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a potential permanent move.

That bid was knocked back and Palmer stayed with Pep Guardiola's side. However, he finally left City in the summer of 2023 for around £47million, a fee which now looks like a bargain, with the attacker valued at more than £100m.
