Newcastle United must wait to learn if they have Carabao Cup advantage after Arsenal red card
Newcastle United have reason to watch whether Arsenal appeal the three-match suspension Myles Lewis-Skelly is set to serve after being sent off against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Lewis-Skelly, 18, received a red card for a foul on Wolves defender Matt Doherty during Saturday afternoon's match. Michael Oliver made the decision on-field before video assistant referee Darren England checked and confirmed the call, deeming the challenge serious foul play.
As a result, Lewis-Skelly will, as it stands, miss Arsenal's first three matches next month. The second game of that ban is against Newcastle at St James' Park when the two teams play the second leg of their League Cup semi-final. Lewis-Skelly started the first leg, playing 78 minutes before Oleksandr Zinchenko replaced him.

The teenager could still feature in the reverse fixture, but only if Arsenal choose to appeal the suspension and are successful. Speaking after the match, Mikel Arteta said that the club would decide whether they do or not. Still, he intimated that the Football Association should overturn the suspension without them having to.
Arteta said to Sky Sports: "I think it is that clear that I'll leave it to you guys. I am absolutely fuming, but I leave it with you because it's that obvious that I don't think my words are going to help."
On the prospect of them appealing, the Arsenal manager added: "That's for the club to decide what is the best decision and it's that obvious that maybe we don't even need to [appeal]." Arteta reiterated that stance during his post-match press conference.
"Well, hopefully, we don't need to, and if we have to, it's a really good precedent with what happened with Bruno [Fernandes vs Tottenham Hotspur] this season. Hopefully.
"Okay, we were in a position we shouldn't have been in; at least, let's be in a position that we should be in for the next few weeks and allow our player to continue to do his job."
