Newcastle United could be offered Manchester City star Jack Grealish this summer with his future at the Etihad Stadium looking doubtful.

The England international was linked with the Magpies at the start of the January window but those claims were played down by Eddie Howe earlier this year. Grealish's representatives are now scouring the market for the 29-year-old's next move with City believed to be open to offers for his services.

The asking price for Grealish is expected to be a world away from the £100m City paid for his services to Aston Villa back in 2021. And even though he has two years left on his current £300,000 per week wages, he would have to take a major pay cut to join the Magpies.

The Newcastle head coach certainly admires Grealish, describing him as an "outstanding player" last year, and the feeling is mutual from the winger who said of Howe in summer 2024: "They have a great manager in Eddie Howe and they already have good players who can hurt you.

"They had a good window and they brought in good players. They're a threat now and in the future."

Newcastle are expected to have some money to spend but would need to do some trading in order to make such a transfer work. St James' Park may tick the boxes of Grealish and his representatives but it could still prove to be a deal beyond United's finances right now.

Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and his former club Aston Villa have also been mooted as possible summer moves. If Newcastle qualify for the Champions League they will need a big lift and a marquee arrival.

Fabian Schar talks intensify

After tying down Martin Dubravka and Emil Krafth to contract extensions this week, the next on Eddie Howe's wish-list to put pen to paper is the retired Swiss international.

The centre-back will be 34 in December and one of the key factors in the talks has been whether he will still be deemed a regular in the side. Schar retired from the Switzerland international set-up after 86 caps because he wanted to extend his club career.

He remains a regular pick for Howe but that could change if a new centre-back arrives in the summer and assurances are now being asked for by Schar's people.

Newcastle to expand football operations team

The Magpies are set to add another layer of professionalism to their football operations team by appointing a women's Academy manager. The club are already set to add a women's director of football to Becky Langley's backroom team but Newcastle are now looking to the future.

The job advert reads: "Newcastle United Women are on the hunt for a dynamic, experienced leader to spearhead our Professional Game Academy. This is your chance to shape the next generation of talent and drive a successful, sustainable Academy to new heights!

"As the Academy Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our players, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for both staff and players to thrive, while also complying with all FA regulations. You will lead a dynamic team and act as a role model, maintaining the Academy's high standards in professional development and continuous improvement."
