The January transfer window has been open for three weeks and Newcastle United continue to be linked with a host of players across the globe.

It could prove to be a significant month for the club amid their ambitions of finishing up in the European spots. A return to Europe will be a significant boost in terms of staying compliant with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) which clubs in the top-flight battle against every year.

Not only that, it would also gift Newcastle an opportunity to reinvest in their squad. With that said, Chronicle Live has taken a look at the latest transfer news, views and gossip doing the rounds;

Newcastle 'ready' to make first move for David

Having joined the race for Jonathan David as European clubs continue to queue up for his signature, Newcastle are "ready" to make the first move to snap-up the Lille star. The Canada international is set to leave the French club this summer when his contract runs out.

Chronicle Live understands that Newcastle officials were in attendance during Lille's 2-1 Ligue 1 win against Nice at the weekend to observe the striker in action. Besides Newcastle, other English teams including Arsenal, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Chelsea are all said to be monitoring his situation.

A key factor that could determine which clubs he joins next will be who can offer him Champions League football. David is the joint-top scorer in Ligue 1 with 11 goals.

Addressing his future plans, the forward said last month: "In England, when I watch the matches, everything is full each time. As a player, it motivates you even more. I don't know, I think it's possible, very possible. I don't know if I can find myself anywhere other than the Premier League.

"It could well be the Premier League. It's a very nice atmosphere."

Kelly transfer latest as Juventus still 'keen' on deal

Sky Sports in Italy reckon Juventus remain interested in signing Lloyd Kelly on a loan deal that would include an option to buy despite seeing an initial interest turned down.

However, it's said that would not suit Newcastle's needs as Chronicle Live understand that Newcastle have put a £25million price tag. The club have already turned down a bid of around €13million (£11m) from Fenerbahce earlier this month.
