Newcastle United set to say emotional goodbye to talented youngster despite impressing Eddie Howe
Newcastle United youngster Jamie Miley is poised to join Hartlepool United in the coming days after being recalled from his loan spell at Newport County earlier this month. Chronicle Live understands the final details of an agreement with the 21-year-old are being put in place, with the National League outfit closing in a permanent deal for the Magpies academy graduate.
The move comes after his younger brother, Lewis, burst onto the scene last term to cement a place in Eddie Howe’s first-team. Jamie was part of the young contingent of under-21 talent who flew to Australia for a post-season trip Down Under, jetted out to Japan in pre-season and made his St James' Park debut in the 4-0 win over Girona over the summer.
However, a recent loan spell was marred by injuries meaning Miley only featured eight times for League Two side Newport County before Newcastle activated a clause to recall him from Rodney Parade. The Magpies were considering another loan for the youngster this month but Hartlepool expressed an interest to acquire his services permanently.

Miley is entering the final six months of his contract on Tyneside and is in search of regular first-team minutes further down the football pyramid. The move also means staying close to his home, which is another factor influencing the move.
Quizzed over potential signings over the weekend, Hartlepool boss Anthony Limbrick refused to be drawn on incoming deals. "I think it's unfair to comment exactly on individual players," he responded.
"We are working hard behind the scenes to try and get some in. The negotiations are ongoing and we're continuing to talk to the players, so we'll see how we go."
There was long-held hope Jamie would follow Lewis into the first-team after enjoying a solid pre-season with Howe's senior side both at home and abroad - and after impressing in a 2-0 win over Hull City in July, there was plenty of praise from the boss himself.
“I mean, Jamie’s got very similar qualities to Lewy, of course, his brother. He’s very composed on the ball, he’s very composed for his age. He’s trustworthy on the pitch. I thought he delivered a really good performance. I think he should be pleased with himself.”
Thankfully Newcastle have another Miley brother in their ranks, with Mason, 16, excelling behind the scenes in the club's youth setup. The central midfielder is already playing years above his age group and is being tipped for big things by academy staff.
