Newcastle United chiefs remain "relaxed" about Alexander Isak's contract situation - despite the Sweden star once again proving to be one of the hottest properties in European football over the weekend.

Chronicle Live understands that Eddie Howe has been assured that the striker is going nowhere despite his rich vein of form and talk of a £150million price tag. The only inquiry to have landed on the table for Isak was last June when Chelsea asked about his price, but the Blues quickly balked at the fee.

Since them Isak's valuation has soared further and the truth is there is no real price tag on the 25-year-old because he is regarded as the club's prize asset. A fresh round of reports that he will be offered a new deal at the end of the season circulated in the direct aftermath of the 3-1 win over Southampton, with Isak making the difference with two goals to take his tally to 19.

Sources on the football agency circuit have suggested to us that Newcastle would require an "astronomical" fee to even think about selling Isak and that very few clubs could even afford him.

Newcastle's biggest issue would be replacing Isak and the cost it would entail. As things stand, they already have one of the top five strikers in Europe.

Isak came off early against Southampton and it was later confirmed that was because the striker was feeling ill. A little bit of sickness has swept around the squad and like Bruno Guimaraes, Isak came off when it was deemed "job done" by Howe and his coaching staff.

Isak's current deal runs out in 2028 and Newcastle don't feel under pressure to sit down and discuss it right now. Talks were always planned later this year and once the winter window is closed, Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell will sit down and talk with Howe on contracts throughout the squad.
