Newcastle United are yet to dip their toe in the January transfer water with Eddie Howe hopeful of strengthening his squad for the second half of the campaign. The Magpies boss has reiterated the club may need to sell players before they can buy this window, given the need to comply with the Premier League's FFP rules.

Despite that being the case, Newcastle continue to be linked with a number of players across Europe. Martin Dubravka continues to be linked with a move away from St. James' Park, as does Paraguayan winger Miguel Almiron.

Nothing has come to fruition in the first three days of the window but there's plenty of time for that to change. With that in mind, Chronicle Live has taken a look at the latest Newcastle United transfer rumours...

Newcastle United 'still interested' in £41.5m Arsenal and Liverpool target

According to reports in the Netherlands, Newcastle United remain interested in PSV winger Johan Bakayoko despite a downturn in form this season, claims Het Belang van Limburg.

The Magpies are said to have competition in the form of Arsenal and Liverpool for the promising Belgian talent, who burst onto the scene last season. The winger has six goals and two assists in 20 appearances so far this season, having managed 14 goals and 14 assists in all competitions last season.

Last summer, PSV technical director Marcel Brands slapped a £41.5m price tag on the player's head, whose contract runs until 2026. It remains to be seen whether Newcastle, Arsenal or Liverpool would stump up such a fee given the need to comply with the Premier League's FFP rules.

Man City could land Newcastle United transfer blow

Manchester City could land a blow to Newcastle United's transfer plans with a move for young RC Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov this month. The Magpies are among a number of top European clubs said to be interested in the young Uzbek defender, with Pep Guardiola's side also admirers.

City had hoped to keep an eye on the young defender and sign him when they deem him as ready to start in the Premier League, but injuries and a disappointing start to the season could see those plans brought forward.

Newcastle have been repeatedly linked with defensive reinforcements given injuries to Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman, having missed out on Marc Guehi in the recent summer transfer window.
