Newcastle United urged to make Liverpool transfer move for 'outstanding' talent
Newcastle United have been exploring options to improve their goalkeeping options for several months now, with a summer transfer move expected. The Magpies have been linked with a move for Bunrley shot-stopper James Trafford, while speculation continues over the long-term future of Martin Dubravka and Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Both have been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia in the January transfer window, with Al-Shabab turning to Odysseas after seeing bids to sign Dubravka turned down. Nick Pope is still Eddie Howe's No 1, but there has been plenty of talk of United looking for new options in the summer transfer window.
Trafford has long been on their radar, although much could depend on Burnley's bid to win promotion back to the Premier League. The Clarets don't want to lose the former England Under-21 star, although a bid in excess of £20m could make them think twice. However, if United do want to strengthen their keeper options, then they should look no further than Liverpool, according for former Reds midfield star Danny Murphy.

Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher could be set to the leave the Merseyside club in the summer, with Giorgi Mamardashvili joining to compete for a first-team place with Alisson. That would leave Kelleher firmly out in the cold - but Murphy feels the 26-year-old would be the perfect option for United or Premier League rivals Chelsea.
“I think next season at Liverpool we will have Alisson starting and Giorgi Mamardashvili on the bench with Caoimhin Kelleher leaving," Murphy told OLBG. “My understanding is that Kelleher will leave and there won't be short of takers, he is an outstanding goalkeeper and deserves the chance to go and be a number one.
“I think he will get a really good move and Alisson will have a season in front of Mamardashvili to help him learn and get settled. Where could Kelleher go? Well, I think Chelsea's an obvious one, although I think Robert Sanchez is improving hugely. I think he gets some unfair criticism for a few mistakes here in the season. I think he's actually a really good goalkeeper.
“He just gets a bit nervous at times with the ball at his feet. But Chelsea's an obvious one and I think probably Newcastle, if they’re thinking of evolving as a club and becoming more competitive. Nick Pope has been a great keeper over the years but having more injuries at the minute and he’s not the best with his feet. He'll admit that himself. I think for Kelleher, Newcastle or Chelsea are two wonderful options for him.”
