Newcastle United urged to make William Osula call as verdict given after Eddie Howe reveal
Newcastle United summer signing William Osula is still waiting on his opportunity to feature regularly for the Magpies. Eddie Howe has taken his time bedding in the young striker whose minutes have been limited since his move from Sheffield United and Chronicle Live readers in our comments section reckon that he should be given that chance soon.
Osula was signed for £15 million this year, and has featured for precious few minutes with the senior team so far. With the striker department stretched thin due to an injury to Callum Wilson, and Alexander Isak also prone to picking up injuries, the young Danish forward is Howe's only other centre-forward in the first-team ranks.
However, the Newcastle boss has opted to play winger Anthony Gordon up front in Isak's absence, leading to questions about Osula's from within the Magpies fanbase.

Speaking ahead of this week's Carabao Cup clash with Brentford Howe, was asked about Osula's situation along with fellow youngster Lewis Miley, said: "They are very different players of course but with any young player, I think you need a degree of patience, that's not just the player, that's the player's representatives, family, friends - you are on a path of development, 16, 17, 18, 19 whatever age you are and even sometimes older, the way you are trying to get into the team you've got to develop your game, there's no point standing still."
Chronicle Live readers have taken to the comments to have their say on whether or not Osula should be given more minutes, or whether Howe is right to bide his time.
Reader Magman reckons it's time to sink or swim and said: "I hate it when coaches starting talking about age... if you're ready, you're ready. Look at Michael Owen, made his England senior cap at 18. If the lad isn't ready to do it on the pitch, then he shouldn't be on the first team bench. When he has come on I liked what I have seen, both in his physicality but more so his attitude - against Chelsea he had a go at Livramento for not putting the ball in [the box]. I liked that he demanded the ball."
Yorkie47 disagreed and said: "Owen, whose career was destroyed and attributed to being put into first team football too young?"
Vancouvertoonie says: "Give Osula the chance to show what he's got! Wilson is spending the next two months off, so might as well give the young man his chance to shine when Isak needs a rest."
Reader, Petrus, thinks that there's a little too much caution: "Howe has his methods, however Osula may well have been playing already in most other Premier League teams. We haven't really seen him but, from what we have seen, he looks a handy striker and better than playing [Anthony] Gordon as a striker."
N Shields Lad says: "From what I've noticed Osula is not quite the finished article yet, give it time, and keep bringing him on as a substitute, but only when the game is in the bag or when an injury occurs to force it. Otherwise don't try to hurry the lad because I'm sure Eddie will get the best out of him, like he has with a few others."
Bmlondon writes: "We keep paying millions for players that are not ready. We might as well save our money and give players from the academy a chance. Paying millions for a player that isn't ready is paying millions for fish in the sea that we haven't caught yet. I'm sure players in the youth can do the same job."
