Newcastle United's FA Cup third-round tie against League Two outfit Bromley will have to overcome freezing weather conditions. After a week of snow, ice, and Met Office warnings around the country, a series of matches have already been postponed.

Forecast predictions on Friday for Newcastle report a high of just two degrees celsius on Saturday with temperatures expected to be below freezing for a large portion of the day. The match at St James' Park is due to kick off at 3pm Sunday, when the Met Office forecasts temperatures to be at 4°C and no snow or rain currently expected.

Although it is mainly the west of England that is facing serious snow risks, the North East could be subjected to snow as well. There have also been flood warnings, and another Met Office warning for the whole of the northeastern region was issued for Friday.

Between Thursday evening and Friday morning, it said: "Scattered wintry showers, occasionally feeding inland from the North Sea through Thursday evening and night, may lead to some icy patches on untreated surfaces as temperatures fall below freezing. Isolated snow accumulations of 1-3 cm are possible, mainly on hills above 150m elevation."

On Thursday, a meeting in the afternoon took place to confirm Everton's meeting with Peterborough United was safe to go ahead. The Toffees went on to win 2-0.

Earlier in the week it was all eyes on Anfield as a serious downfall of snow threatened to derail preparations and possibly the game on Sunday against Manchester United. Snow was shovelled off the field with the match being played.

So far there is yet to be much concern of Newcastle's match but Football League matches including Carlisle United vs MK Dons, Shrewsbury vs Huddersfield Town, Port Vale vs Barrow and Northampton Town vs Barnsley have already been called off.

Oldham Athletic vs Eastleigh, Hartlepool United vs Barnet, Altrincham vs Wealdstone, Maidenhead United vs York City and Southend United vs Halifax Town have been called off in the National League, while Mansfield Town vs Wigan and Preston vs Charlton have been postponed in the FA Cup with the ties now set to take place on Tuesday, January 14.

Eddie Howe's side have already had one match rearranged this season in the cup. Their Carabao Cup third-round match away to AFC Wimbledon was postponed at late notice due to a pitch collapse earlier this campaign. That game had to be switched around and played at home for Newcastle.

Howe will be keen to keep things as usual here as well with Premier League action set to follow in midweek. Newcastle then host Wolves on Wednesday night in a quick turnaround.
