SAVE! Murphy gets to the top of the box after winning the ball, gets his shot away, but Wolves goalkeeper Sa is up to the task and makes a good save diving to his left. Wolves clear it away quickly, but Newcastle United will be happy with that effort.

Andre gets a warning from the referee after his challenge on Gordon. No bookings just yet, but the referee was quite clear in his warning for the Wolves player. Wolves get a couple of crosses into the box, but Newcastle United's defenders are alive to the threat. Soon, another ball is sent in from the right, but Agbadou cannot get his shot away. That was closer than the hosts would have liked.

Newcastle United are overwhelming favourites to win this match with Opta's Live Win Probability model showing a strong 65.3% probability of a win for the hosts and only 16.4% for Wolves. Doherty and Gordon will be a match-up to watch for tonight and Gordon has already but the defender under some pressure with his movements. Gordon finds Isak in the box and Isak's flick is meant for Joelinton, who can't get there. He was offside anyway.

The teams are making their way out to the pitch, the managers and players are ready, and so are the fans who have turned up in huge numbers for this big clash. Newcastle United are unbeaten in their last six meetings with Wolves, winning four of those games. In fact, Wolves’ last win against the Magpies dates back to October 2021.

Wolves have made just the solitary change to the XI that took to the field in the FA Cup over Bristol City, as Sa is back in goal for Johnstone. Defender Agbadou makes his Premier League debut for Wolves. As expected, Semedo and Wolves’ top goalscorer Cunha are available today but only fit enough to start on the bench.

Newcastle United have only retained two players in their starting XI for this game from the team that started against Bromley in the FA Cup, with Dubravka in goal and Joelinton in midfield. However, there is only one change from the EFL Cup win over Arsenal a week ago as Guimaraes comes in for Willock, who is on the bench. The in-form Isak also returns and starts up front alongside Murphy and Gordon.

The highs of Wolves’ 2-0 win over Manchester United followed by a hard-earned point away from home against Tottenham Hotspur were quickly wiped out after former manager Nuno Espirito Santo handed them a 3-0 defeat with his Nottingham Forest side to leave manager Vitor Pereira's men just above the relegation zone only on goal difference. Despite the constant relegation threat, Pereira’s start to life at Wolves has been impressive as the Nottingham Forest defeat is the only one in his first five games, a run that includes three wins. The latest of those victories came in the FA Cup this past weekend as goals from Rayan Ait-Nouri and Rodrigo Gomes gave Wolves a 2-1 win over Bristol City. The road for Wolves, who are yet to feature in a league game this season with fewer than two goals, will only get tougher going forward as they face Chelsea, Aston Villa, Arsenal, and Liverpool in their next four league games after this one, which makes it all the more important for them to get a positive result against a rampant Newcastle United. Nelson Semedo and Craig Dawson are available after recovering from injuries. But most importantly, Matheus Cunha returns as well and Wolves will largely bank on him yet again.

It would be an understatement to say that Newcastle United are in the midst of a great run. Eddie Howe’s men, only two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea with a game in hand, are absolutely flying at the moment as they host Wolves at St. James’ Park in the quest for a ninth consecutive win across competitions. Since losing 2-4 to Brentford in early December, the Magpies have been on a five-match winning run in the Premier League, beating Aston Villa, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur in their last three games. Their two latest victories - against North London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates in the first leg of the EFL Cup and a 3-1 win over Bromley this past weekend that takes them into the fourth round of the FA Cup - have added a lot of excitement among the Magpies faithful as they are also aiming to end a 70-year wait for a major trophy. Newcastle survived an early scare from Bromley, coming back from a goal down to win 3-1, thus making it 10 games in a row across competitions in which they have scored at least two goals per game. Before the game, there were doubts about the availability of Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Jacob Murphy, all of whom did not feature against Bromley. Meanwhile, Harvey Barnes is ruled out for a few weeks due to injury.
