Newcastle United's Alexander Isak contract masterstroke finally spotted
Jamie Carragher has suggested that Newcastle United are in a 'really strong position' to be able to hang on to Alexander Isak.
Although Newcastle intend to sit down with Isak to discuss fresh terms, it is worth noting that Isak's current deal does not expire until 2028. Newcastle smartly handed Isak a six-year contract when the striker joined the club and Carragher appears to be one of the few pundits to have actually taken notice following months of speculation about the Sweden star's future.
"I think they will be able to hang on to him because the figure we're talking - say £120m - is an awful lot of money for a club, but he's worth it," Carragher told the Overlap US. "He's fantastic.

"He hasn't got two years to go - he's got three - so if Newcastle kept him for a year, they would still be able to get the money that they would get now. It's not like they're going to lose value.
"It's not like going from two years to one year. I don't think three years to two years makes that much difference so if you're Newcastle, you could easily bat that away and say, 'No'.
"There's no Bosman coming into it. Three years is a long time to stay at a club to go for free so I think Newcastle are in a really strong position. I don't really get all the talk of going to Arsenal."
It is also worth noting that Isak has repeatedly said he is 'really happy' at Newcastle and the 25-year-old previously described playing for the Magpies as a 'dream'. Newcastle certainly have no intention of losing a player who has scored 18 goals in his last 21 games.
