After weeks of voting from around the world, Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon has narrowly missed out on adding to the Magpies' successful record of claiming Reach PLC's Fans' Footballer of the Year award.

After wins for Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier in recent seasons, Gordon was in with a shout of making it a trio of consecutive victories for the north east outfit. However, on this occasion Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Cole Palmer of Chelsea have taken the top two spots, with Gordon taking home the bronze medal.

Gordon’s form in the first half of 2024 for Newcastle earned him a place on the plane for England - and a spot in this year's final nominations! The winger may not have featured heavily at the tournament but he has been an ever-present in Eddie Howe’s side, chipping in with 16 goal contributions since January.

His ability on both flanks, and through the middle, made him one of the most sought-after players in the country in the summer. Newcastle fought off interest from Liverpool to keep the winger at St James’ Park and rewarded him with a bumper new contract. He looks set to finish the season strongly, and notched against Liverpool in a fantastic individual performance recently.

In the Newcastle-specific vote, Gordon did take the crown - beating Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar for his 2024 exploits.

The top five was as follows:

1) Mohamed Salah

2) Cole Palmer

3) Anthony Gordon

4) Bukayo Saka

5) Andre Onana
