They blew up their own storm on Tyneside after surviving one of the worst yet! A grand reunion of The Entertainers drew a huge capacity audience of 1,200 to the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle's city centre such is their popularity almost 30 years ago since they wowed a whole nation and they were determined that Storm Eowyn wouldn't blow them off course.

A massive effort was launched across the board to make certain the show went ahead full throttle. Lee Clark had been over in Spain to support son Bobby's team Red Bull Salzburg in their Champions League match at Real Madrid. His return flight was diverted to Paris, then he travelled on to London and managed to grab a train north.

Killer Kilcline beat the weather's high press flying in from Manilla while Mick Quinn came up 24 hours earlier to beat the problems as did Rob Lee and Ruel Fox while Darren Peacock battled on motorways strewn with overturned lorries to drive over from the north west.

However the two Irish lads were worst hit. Only Keith Gillespie, whose flight from Belfast was turned back, failed to make it out of the 14 due to be on parade. Liam O'Brien's journey was the craziest - his plane from Dublin was diverted to London but he valiantly fought on jumping on board a coach north at 4.30pm with no trains running which got him as far as Washington where a friend picked him up arriving halfway through the evening to rousing applause.

I compered a super night of glittering royalty. We had Peter Beardsley, Bez, Rob, Steve Watson, Clarkie, Ruel Fox, Quinnie, Steve Howey, Alan Thompson, Darren Peacock, Kevin Scott, Killer, and eventually Liam all on stage together and the inside stories of an epic Newcastle United era flowed.

Kilcline, looking for all the world like old rocker Roy Wood from Wizzard with flowing beard and locks, sparked the birth of the Entertainers according to gang leader Kevin Keegan and as such one of football's great eccentrics is a treasure. KK labelled Killer "the most important signing" he ever made and loved him because he was as nutty as a fruitcake, a description well merited considering I noticed upon asking him a question that his specs had one round frame and one square!

The 90s players back together again still remain the yardstick by which the progress of the modern NUFC is measured having finished back to back Premier League runners-up. One top member of the clan not at the Tyne Theatre was Les Ferdinand but I'll catch up with him and so can you when I host a Sunday afternoon with Sir Les at the 02 City Hall on April 6 (12 noon-4pm). Tickets available from NUFC Matters and the venue.
